Hi my friends! Happy Friday (yes if I could dance in this post I would).

There are a few spots left in my Create Seattle classes which means it is not too late to sign up. If you have not attended a Create Event before let me just say it is not only a plethora of fun and creativity but also an event where like minded, supportive ladies and gentlemen come together to inspire! Not to mention Seattle is super easy to get to (there is even a non stop flight from here).The other great part to this - if you are not able to attend the entire retreat you can pick and choose classes day, evening or both.

EMBEDDED BEAUTIES: FLOOD SOLDERING 101 (3 HOURS) •

You will leave with... three completed bezels as well as a plethora of techniques and a new confidence when soldering.
Description: We all need a wee bit of subtle glamour nestled within the bounty of our treasure boxes, and treasures embedded in faux mercury glass are just the thing. Gorgeous layers of luscious silver surround an embedded object in each of the three pieces we will be creating together.
Students Should Bring: Students should bring items they wish to place into the faux mercury glass such as rhinestone jewelry, findings, etched metal, coins etc. Please do not bring anything plastic.

Technique: Bookmaking & Art Journaling

You will leave with... a completed journal chock full of techniques that work in other projects you may be working on now as well as in the future. Each student will walk away from class with new and intriguing design ideas as well as an array of new techniques to use in any medium.

Description: Documenting the days that make up our journey is one of the most important gifts we can leave for our future. In class we will create a plethora of beauty as we work with a bounty of mixed-media elements. Not only will we be painting, but also stitching, stenciling, creating with wax, and layering elements. The possibilities for this project are truly endless as this is the tale of your journey! Kristen Robinson will cover elements of composition and walk you through the construction of your journal, from the most basic of watercolor pages to her tips and techniques for layers of paint, fabric and found objects. We will make our own stencils in class to use in our books as well as develop our own personal markings. While the kit includes a crème color scheme please feel free to integrate colors that speak to you.

Students Should Bring: Paint of Your Choice (You should have at least 4 colors on hand one being white), Paint Brushes, Container for Water, Images and Clip Art, Found Objects (keys, jewelry, chain, beads), Doilies, Lace any Fabric that Speaks to You, Ribbon or other Trim to Incorporate, Scissors (or rotary cutter and cutting mat), Printed Words That Speak to You, Paper Adhesive, Bone Folder, Ruler, Apron, Needle and Embroidery Floss If Hand Stitching

DIVINE BANGLES: METAL FORMING, ETCHING AND METALSMITHING (6 HOURS) • KRISTEN ROBINSON

You will leave with... an arsenal of knowledge applicable to an array of mixed-media projects as well as a new understanding for fold forming—and 6 amazing bangles.
Description: A bounty of beauty abounds in this delightful set of bangles. Basic and intermediate metalsmithing techniques are employed to create these unique bangles, which are formed in various non-traditional shapes. Custom charms created with metal fold forming techniques enhanced with etching are the centerpiece for these darlings. Flooded bezels as well as custom chain we will solder adds another layer of charm. Be prepared for a day full of learning, creating and FUN as you will create 5 pieces in class. Everything shown in the photo will be provided in the class kit. If you would like to add charms, beads and other baubles to your pieces feel free to bring them along. Please note an optional tool kit will be available for purchase in class, which will include folding pliers, tin snips and a ball peen hammer.
Students Should Bring: Round Nose Pliers, Wire Cutters (these will need to cut 14 Gauge Wire), Flat Nose Pliers, Tin Snips, Ruler, Scissors, Apron or other Clothing Protection, Face Mask if Sensitive to Fumes and/or dust Optional: (If you do not wish to share I have three of everything on hand), Bench Block, Bench Pillow, Ball Peen Hammer

You will leave with... a journal created from unconventional materials that is sure to elicit wonder. An array of tips and techniques will be covered that are not only diverse but also applicable to a broad range of mediums.
Description: Capturing the moments of our journey is perfect when done so on upcycled materials. In class we will transform ordinary plastic cereal bags, shopping bags and plexi-glass into a conglomeration of beauty you will simply marvel at when you see it. Layers of white gesso, threads, paper and virtually any ephemera you wish you to add creates not only a masterpiece of sorts but a collection of tales. Join me as I share a few tricks and tips on turning those glassine bags and white shopping sacks into the perfect journal. This project is truly all about thinking outside of the box; cereal box that is. The glassine nature of cereal bags (as well as other bags used to house food), is such a delightful canvas. During our time together I will not only walk you through the process of constructing these lovely journals, but offering a bounty of techniques and tips when it comes to stitching, layering, painting and writing within the journals. Perhaps the coup de grace is the soldered charms we will be creating to use within our journals as each will be a true signature piece that speaks volumes as to who we are as artists.
Students Should Bring: White Acrylic Paint, Paintbrushes, Container for Water Thin Black Sharpie, Text (can be from dictionary or other source, Colored Pencils, Acrylic Paint (choose 2-3 colors in your palette), Thread, Decorative Papers, Crayons and Cardstock
