Hello everyone. Kristen asked me to guest blog for her today to fill you in on her family situation. She is still in the ICU with her mother, who went in for throat surgery last week with Kristen by her side. Unfortunately, the family learned the spot on her throat is cancer, and she will need to have another surgery this coming Tuesday to remove a small portion of the vocal chord and the larynx.
The prognosis is very good for her mom -- 98% that she will soon be cancer free. But there is always the shock that comes from news where one moment life is normal, and the next, everything changes on a dime. Kristen is very close to her parents, and has been such an amazing caretaker during these long days of healing and waiting in the hospital.
I know your love and prayers are going out to Kristen and her family. Trust me, they feel them and know how much we wish the best for them.
I thought since Kristen adores the romantic authors so much, this might be a good place to remind her of something beautiful during sad times. This famous Emily Dickenson poem always comforts me. -- posted by Jen Cushman

Child's smile awakens inner garden of Faith
precious seeds plant new dreams
root fibers spread like an open hand
Hunger drinks optimism, partakes of enriched soil
proud stems rigid in torrent downpour
Soul's whisper awakens rooted, not rotted faith
shoots unfurl, tendrils reach upward carrying
compost memories of ancestor's blood,sweat n' tears
Prana awakens heart's sense
listen to deep whispers
transparent wings appear
life, still green inside
mysterious gifts extend firmly planted beliefs
Grace grows in fertile mind.
Thanks Jen; lovely post~ Kristen I hope and pray together you will find strength in each other and extend hope to your Mom. Her outlook is key to get through this process!
Prayers for a speedy recovery~

Thank you for the update Jen. I will be keeping them in my prayers. I love the poem from Emily Dickinson and had just come across it this past week when searching for comfort after hearing similar news with my own mother.

Sending healing wishes to Kristen's Mom, and much love and support to the whole family. I had no idea what the situation was when e-mailing Kristen earlier today, and feel so bad I hadn't been able to show my support. Please know good thoughts are headed your way. . .
